Privacy Policy

This Policy explains what personal data we keep at LocalPets, what we use it for, who sees it and what rights you have. We apply it to all users, wherever they live, with the level of protection of the European Union General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

The data controller is Miadels LLC, 1209 Mountain Road Pl NE, Ste N, Albuquerque, NM 87110, United States, the company that operates LocalPets.

For any privacy matter you can write to us at support@localpets.co.

• Account: email, encrypted password, account type and language. Only you and the LocalPets team.
• Profile: name, age, nationality, occupation, introduction, languages, experience with animals and photos. Shown to any visitor of the website.
• Home and pets (owners): city and country, description, photos, pets and their care. Shown to any visitor. The house guide is only shown to the sitter with a confirmed stay.
• Contact (owners): exact address, phone and emergency contact. Only shown to the sitter with a confirmed stay.
• Activity: applications, messages, offers, cancellations, reviews, reliability score and saved searches. Messages are seen by the other person in each conversation; reviews and reliability are shown on the profile.
• Verification: the manual review of your profile and, if we ask for them, the documents you send us. Only the LocalPets team.
• Technical data: IP address, browser and error logs. Only the team and our technical providers.
• Emails: your sending preferences and whether you have unsubscribed, so we do not write to you when you do not want us to.

If you give us data about another person (for example, an emergency contact or someone who lives with you), make sure they agree.

• Creating your account, showing your profile and connecting owners with sitters: to provide the service you ask for.
• Sending you service emails (verification, messages, offers, reviews, alerts for the searches you turned on and reminders to complete your profile): to provide the service.
• Reviewing profiles, calculating reliability and moderating content for the safety of the community: legitimate interest.
• Automatically translating your texts and correcting their spelling: legitimate interest, so the community can understand each other across languages.
• Sharing stays on our social media: legitimate interest. You can ask us not to do it with yours.
• Sending you news and promotions: only with your consent, if you ticked the box. You can withdraw it at any time.
• Complying with the law and handling complaints: legal obligation and legitimate interest.

We do not make automated decisions with significant effects on you: profiles are approved by a person.

We do not sell or rent your data. To run LocalPets we use these providers:

• MongoDB Atlas (database), in the United States.
• Vercel (website hosting), in the United States.
• Cloudinary (photos and files), in the United States.
• Resend (email sending), in the United States.
• Anthropic (automatic translation and correction of texts), in the United States.

We also share data when the law requires it or when it is needed to protect a user or the community.

Miadels LLC and all our providers are in the United States, and your data is stored there. We work with providers that take part in the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework or apply the European Commission standard contractual clauses.

• While your account is active.
• If you close your account, for 7 days you can ask us to restore it. After that we delete your profile, photos, listings and email contact.
• We keep separately, without your readable email, just enough to stop a blocked account from signing up again.
• Reviews you wrote about other people may stay published without your full name.
• If you unsubscribe from our emails, we keep your address on the opt-out list so we do not write to you again.

You can ask to access your data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to its use, take it with you in a standard format and withdraw your consent to news emails at any time.

Write to us at support@localpets.co. We reply within one month at most.

If you think we have not handled your data properly, you can complain to the data protection authority of your country (in Spain, the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos).

We encrypt passwords, the connection always uses HTTPS and administration access is restricted. No system is infallible: if there were a breach that affects you, we would let you know.

LocalPets only stores in your browser what the website needs to work. We do not use advertising or analytics cookies, and we do not share any of this with third parties.

• token (cookie): keeps you logged in for 7 days.
• Interface language (local storage): remembers whether you see the website in Spanish or English.
• selectedRole (local storage): remembers whether you started signing up as a sitter or as an owner.
• Pending search (local storage): keeps a search you started before creating your account, and is deleted once saved.
• Dashboard steps (local storage): remembers which step of the getting-started guide you are on.

You can delete all of this from your browser settings. If you do, you will have to log in again.

LocalPets is only for people over 18. If we find an account belonging to a minor, we close it.

If we change something important, we will let you know by email or on the website before it applies. You will always see the version and the date at the top.
